In 1995, ZIMETAL was the first company in Italy to begin offering, as an integrated part of the production cycle, a passivation treatment that is both chromium-free and compatible with any other subsequent painting treatments. This treatment makes it possible to reduce the damage caused by “white rust” and temporarily maintain the coating's brightness and homogeneous appearance. In cases of special requirements, such as container shipment or shipping by sea, this treatment may be combined with services providing ventilated packaging and roofed-over storage.
“White rust” and the unevenness of appearance it gives to the surface of the zinc coating is the principal cause of Customer “disputes”. These Customers generally are not aware that this is a natural phenomenon destined to end with normal exposure to the elements, and cannot serve as cause for the rejection of the product, as has been established in regulations. By offering Customers passivation of their galvanized fabricated articles, it is possible to avoid unpleasant disputes having to do with the aesthetic appearance of the coating, which is occasionally used as a simply pretext.
